I was listening to Radio Five Live and Martin Lewis yesterday talking about Lasting Power of Attorneys (LPA’s) and how important they are.

Whilst it was a great discussion, which shared some people’s real life experiences of LPA’s or lack of them, there were a couple of points I wanted to highlight.
Firstly, the completion of paperwork for an LPA. At The Profit Key as part of completing LPAs for our customers we do all for the form filling for you as part of the service. For an extra £60 we will also register the LPAs on your behalf and ensure if they fail for any reason we keep reapplying at no extra cost to you.
Secondly doing LPAs on your own is an option, as is doing wills and LPAs together (as suggested by Martin Lewis) as part of a legacy plan. The main costs involved are those of registering the LPAs with the government (£110 per LPA). You can also use LPAs for your business interests as well if you would rather your business was looked after separately to your personal finances.
Again, I would really recommend listening to the show, it was a great discussion on a subject that not many of us want to talk about but all of us need. Martin gives some great advice which I think is invaluable.
If you or anyone you speak to say they have the paperwork completed but it hasn’t actually been registered, be aware the forms changed at the start of this year and the Office of Public Guardian won’t accept the old style forms. Unregistered LPAs are as good as an unsigned will!
Lasting Power of attorney can be a complex subject and I’m happy to answer any questions you may have. So please feel free to ring me on 01530 416555 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
